![]() The present article deals with the complex interrelation between language, culture and translation, with the objective of presenting a theoretic model for the description of the cultural dimension of texts, which also should be applicable to the practice of translation. Furthermore, we need concrete models which allow us to operationalize the cultural dimension of the texts for the practice and didactics of translation. Thus, the term is used in a general and inflationary way. Nevertheless, a lot of questions still remain unresolved in the methodological and conceptual field. Today, culture occupies a generally recognized place in Translation Studies. Within the context of the cultural turn in Translation Studies in the 90s we observed the incorporation of non-linguistic aspects in the investigation. It sometimes turns out to be difficult even to make a simple record of the ethnocultural tradition, and even more difficult to interpret it, especially when the ethnographer is dealing with a culture that is relatively unfamiliar. ![]() Moreover, when we are dealing with the broader sphere, with the language of culture as a specific semiotic system that objectivizes the entire spiritual/intellectual life of a society, 1 the difficulties of translating from this language to the language of a different culture mount immeasurably. ![]() ![]() special accuracy, it is practically impossible to avoid additional commentary. Numerous difficulties are encountered, one of the most important of which is the choice of the semantic significance of a word or expression, phrases in one language that correspond best to the other. The problem of making a maximally identical translation of a written text from one language to another has always been the focus of the translator's labor. According to the obtained results, although both domesticating and foreignizing strategies have been used over the last six decades, domestication has been the most pervasive cultural translation strategy from the 1950s up to the 2000s. The current product-oriented descriptive translation research was a qualitative attempt to describe and analyze cultural translation strategies in the corpus of the research and did not intend to judge the correctness of translations or appropriateness of the application of translators' ideological presuppositions. The research question sought t o explore the dominant cultural translation strategy in the dichotomy of domestication and foreignization, which was composed of six of Hemingway's works, originally written in English with their Persian translations over a period of six decades. Relying on the distinction between two main cultural strategies of domestication and foreignization postulated by Lawrence Venuti in 1988, the present study aims to explore the way six books of Hemingway have been portrayed in the Persian context over specific periods of the 1950s to the 2000s. This effort is carried out through the use of structural semiotic analysis tools, namely by exploring the relationships between symbolic meanings, both syntagmatically and paradigmatically. ![]() The findings of this study indicate that the semiotic perspective is able to reveal the dimensions of referential or conceptual meaning of the symbols through the appearance of a supplementary component, which connects literal and figurative meanings conventionally. This is to uncover the various attitudes and perspectives about the roles of semiotic science in the translation of religious texts. The study employs descriptive qualitative method to describe and interpret the data in the form of an analysis of symbolic text translation. This paper aims to uncover the role of semiotics in the translation of symbolic languages, especially religious texts. As such, semiotics can also be used as both structural and pragmatic approach for translation studies, especially for studies in which meanings are difficult to comprehend including symbolic texts. Semiotics, which is the science of signs, has become an increasingly interesting interdisciplinary area of study. ![]()
